Message from the President
As another school year begins, I hope the thought of greeting eager young minds motivates and inspires you. However, nomatter how prepaired we think we may be, or how much time is spent crafting the first lessons of the year, sometimes the night-before-first-day-of-school jitters can get the best of us! But not to worry, the Schulwerk is always there to motivate and inspire, Which is what our organization is all about!
We have some great presenters lined up for you this year that will energize your teaching with fresh ideas and new applications of the schulwerk. We Hope you will join us for as many as you can. The first will be with Michael Chandler at Central United Methodist in Albuquerque on Oct.4. The next will be on Feb. 7 with David Adee in Las Cruces at Columbia Elementary. And the last wil be on March 28 with Thom Borden in Albuquerque. We will also be hosting a chapter share sometime in April. And of course, there's always the national conference in Charlotte, North Carolina Nov. 12 - 15. Please check out the links on our main page for more detailed information on these fine workshops.
Last year's workshops were just as wonderful. A big thank you to our clinicians, Susie Davies-Splitter, Phil Splitter, and Paul Halsted for sharing their time and love of the Schulwerk with us. Thank you also to Louise Loomis and Luis Delgado for providing us with a place to hold these workshops. A lot goes into arranging a site to host these. They and everyone who helped in setting up and tearing down for ourworkshops were marvelous. Thanks also to Luis Delgado, Holly Gilster, Laurel Butler, and Christine Strickland for sharing their ideas at last year's chapter share. We had a great time. And last but not least, a huge thank you to Holly Gilster and all her efforts in organizing another wildly successful Funtastic Music Camp this summer. Thank you, Holly and thank you also to all the people that helped put this together. You made it happen.
Our organization also sponsors a $100 scholarchip applicable to any Orff Schulwerk event be it the national conference, workshops, or renewing local or national dues. You must attend three workshops in order to be elligable for this scholarship. The winner of last year's scholarship will be announced at the Oct. 4 workshop. So come and see if you've won! We hope to see you there.
All my best,
Matthew Pedregon
